Windows 11 26H2, new Copilot and WSL containers land

Microsoft has released the Windows 11 2026 Update, also known as version 26H2, built on the same servicing foundation as recent Windows 11 releases. This matters because it should feel like a regular Windows 11 feature update, not a full rebuild, so you can plan rollout using the same tools and cadence you already know.

The same update post explains how to get 26H2, including that it is now available and how it is delivered. IT teams should review the supported paths in that guide and decide when to start piloting so you are not caught out by users upgrading themselves.

Copilot changes and Linux containers on Windows

Microsoft has introduced a new Copilot with Home, Code and Autopilot to support how work is evolving. This matters because Copilot is shifting from a single tool to a set of experiences, so you will need to track which parts are relevant for your staff and how they are licensed in your tenant.

The Copilot announcement focuses on expanding what individuals and organisations can do with AI in their daily work. IT leaders should start a light review of where Copilot is already in use and which teams might push hardest for these new capabilities so you can set some ground rules early.

Microsoft has also made WSL containers generally available as part of its push to make Windows a strong place to build, run and manage Linux workloads. If you support developers or DevOps teams, this gives them a more standard Linux container story on Windows, so it is worth checking how it fits with any existing container tooling you manage.
