Apple public betas land as iPhone shipments hit new high

Apple has released the iOS 27 public beta, bringing major new features to anyone happy to test pre-release software. For a small IT team, this is the point where you need a clear rule on test devices versus production iPhones so users do not self enrol and create support noise.

The first public betas of iPadOS 27 and macOS 27 Golden Gate are also out, alongside revised beta 3 builds with new build numbers. Treat these as lab only for now, and plan time to check line-of-business apps and management tools before you even think about a wider rollout.

Apple has made tvOS 27 and HomePod 27 public betas available so Apple TV 4K and HomePod users can install the software ahead of the fall launch. If you use Apple TV in meeting rooms or HomePod in offices, keep them on stable releases and set expectations with staff who may see the beta prompts at home.

A second report from Omdia says Apple posted its strongest ever Q2 for iPhone shipments, matching earlier Counterpoint Research data that showed the same record performance despite a wider market downturn. This suggests iPhone will stay a core device for staff for some time, so it is worth keeping your Apple management, support playbooks, and hardware lifecycle plans in good shape.

9to5Mac’s latest Daily episode also highlights Apple suing OpenAI, alongside these beta releases. For IT managers this is background noise for now, but it is one more reason to keep an eye on how Apple positions AI features in future iOS and macOS updates.
